Thai Championship Boxing (TCB) made its debut in Northern Virginia in January 2011 and has become one of the biggest Muay Thai amateur fight series in the DC area. On November 17, 2012, TCB presented 25 fights in Chantilly, VA, with a female title fight as the main event (picture above) between Lauren Piemontese (left) from Smokin-Fist Fight Team and Casey Terrell  (right) from Capital MMA.

Combat at the Capitale 28: DMV Brings Home 2 Wins

DeAngelo v. DeAngelo

On September 21, 2012, DC Boxing and Fitness (DCBFit) and Capital MMA and Fitness represented the Washington, DC, Maryland, and Virginia (DMV) area to take on fighters in Combat at the Capitale 28 in New York City (NYC). Presented by Lou Neglia and Ray Longo and sanctioned by the World Kickboxing Association (WKA), Combat at the Capitale is a kickboxing-only fight night series that features Muay Thai and Low-Kick fights. This evening’s fight card had 18 amateur fights (two were title fights) and 2 professional fights.

[“Low-Kick” or International Kickboxing rules allow punches, kicks above the waist, and kicks to the legs, whereas traditional Full Contact Rules or “American Kickboxing” only allow punches and kicks that are above the waist.]

With three fighters (plus one exhibition fighter) from DCBFit and five from Capital MMA and Fitness, the DMV was hoping to return home with a good set of wins. But NYC has always been a tough city on these fighters, especially with hometown crowds behind teams, such as Team Tiger Shulmann (TTS). In the end, each camp did score one win, and they plan to return in February for the next Combat.

Clinso Wins!

New York City (NYC) has proven to be a tough place to win for Washington, DC (DC), Maryland (MD), and Virginia (VA) (also known as “DMV”) fighters. For the past eight months, fighters from this area have trekked to the Big Apple to fight in Lou Neglia and Ray Longo’s fight nights: Combat at the Capitale and Combat at the Rasputin. Sanctioned by the World Kickboxing Association (WKA), both are kickboxing-only fight night series that features Muay Thai and Low-Kick fights

On February 24, 2012, a crew from DC Boxing & Fitness made another trip NYC to fight in Combat at the Capitale 25. Katie Jaworski, who fought on the past four fight cards, was joined by teammates Clinso “The Rage” Brumfield and Jennifer Yang, who was a last minute replacement. Tara Smith from Warriors Martial Arts Club in Richmond, VA also made her Capitale debut to compete for the open Women’s Northeast WKA Championship. Diamond Watson from Team Combat in MD was originally scheduled to defend his North America Muay Thai Champion title against Mike Fischetti, from Team Tiger Schulmann. But Fischetti broke his nose during training and had to withdraw from the fight. According to Neglia, this fight will be rescheduled for the next show.

Combat at the Capitale 24: DC Fighters Have Heart

[From left to right: Jerome Wilson, Jennifer Yang, Katie Jaworski, and Michael Parker]

Just a few months ago Katie Jaworski fought in Combat at the Capitale 23 as the lone fighter from south of the Mason-Dixon Line. She trekked to New York City (NYC) with her entourage of 5 supporters to go toe-to-toe against Jennie Nedell (Team Fusion). While Jaworski lost by decision, she knew she wanted to come back and fight again. On September 16, 2011, Jaworski returned to NYC to see if she can score a victory. This time, she was joined by two other members of the LA Boxing Arlington Fight Team Michael Parker and Jennifer Yang (all trained by Jerome Wilson), as well as 30 supporters from Pittsburgh, DC, and NYC.

Presented by Louis Neglia and Ray Longo, Combat at the Capitale 24 is a kickboxing-only fight night series in NYC sanctioned by the World Kickboxing Association (WKA). The Capitale, formerly the Bowery Savings Bank, is a beautiful event venue nestled at the edge of Chinatown. Its elegant décor with Corinthian columns and marble flooring provided a contrasting backdrop to what was to come that night – a fight card with 21 hard-hitting, fast-moving, Muay Thai and Low-Kick kickboxing fights. [“Low-Kick” or International Kickboxing rules allow punches, kicks above the waist, and kicks to the legs, whereas traditional Full Contact Rules or “American Kickboxing” only allow punches and kicks that are above the waist.]
