September 10, 2011 – Lange Wins Another Title by TKO!

For the past six years, boxing fans have equated the George Mason University (GMU) Patriot Center as the “house that Lange built.” On September 10, 2011, this venue hosted the 13th Jimmy Lange boxing event, and by the end of the night, that claim was bolstered even more. Promoted by ICE Promotions and presented by Valcourt Building Services, Jimmy Lange faced off against Raul “El Toro” Muñoz for the vacant World Boxing Union (WBU) Junior Middleweight Championship. Less than a year ago, Lange won the North American Boxing Association’s (NABA) vacant super welterweight (154-pound) title here at the Patriot Center. It looks like Lange is planning to bring home all the belts.

This eight-bout fight card also showcased Lange’s Contender teammate, Jonathan Reid, as the co-main event, and it brought back many familiar fighters,  including Todd “White Lightning” Wilson and  Zain “Tiger” Shah who were both looking to keep their undefeated records intact if they could get past Eric “Mighty Mouse” Aiken and Julius “Vicious” Kennedy, respectively. Aiken, the former International Boxing Federation (IBF) World Featherweight Champion, is a DC-area native, and this was his first fight after a 3-year hiatus from competitive boxing.

Joppy and Cummings Look to Settle Beltway Bragging Rights with Grudge Rematch on Jimmy Lange Boxing Card

Joppy lands a sharp right on Cummings.FAIRFAX, VA --- After earning a majority draw last November in a crowd-pleasing, back-and-forth contest, former D.C. world champion William Joppy (39-6-2, 30 KOs) and dangerous veteran Cory “Black Ice” Cummings (17-4-1, 13 KOs) of Baltimore, MD will look to settle Beltway bragging rights when they return to the Patriot Center on March 12 as the 10-round Co-Main Event on the Jimmy Lange Boxing card. The show is an Ice Promotions event presented by Valcourt Building Services.

Each fighter believed he won three months ago in their 10-round showdown where one judge scored in favor of Joppy, 96-94, while the other two saw it even at 95-95.

Joppy, a popular trainer at LA Boxing in Northern Virginia, continues to look for his elusive 40th career win after being stopped by World Boxing Association (WBA) / International Boxing Association (IBA) Light Heavyweight Champion Beibut Shumenov in Shymkent, Kazakhstan on January 10, 2011.  Originally scheduled to fight Gayrat Ahmedov on the undercard, Joppy took the last-minute upgrade and title shot opportunity when Jürgen Brähmer pulled out days before the fight due to illness. During his illustrious career, Joppy has faced the super middleweight division’s best: Bernard “The Executioner” Hopkins, Felix “Tito” Trinidad, Roberto Duran, Howard Eastman, Lucian Bute, Jermain Taylor and Julio Cesar Green.

Jimmy LangeFAIRFAX, VA --- Boxing’s biggest show in the Washington, DC area returns to the Patriot Center on Saturday, March 12 with hometown fighter Jimmy Lange (34-4-2, 24 KOs) squaring off against Jimmy Holmes (19-1, 10 KOs) of DeMotte, IN, in the Main Event.  The 10-round bout will be contested at 160 pounds.  Tickets for Jimmy Lange Boxing, an Ice Promotions event presented by Valcourt Building Services, start at $35 and can be purchased at all Ticketmaster outlets.

Lange, who is headlining his 12th Patriot Center show, returns to the ring after scoring a dramatic 10th round knockout against Joe Wyatt last November.  In typical fashion, the former Contender season one star slugged it out with his opponent, going toe-to-toe before landing a powerful right hook in the closing minute of the fight to secure his 34th win. He earned the North American Boxing Association’s (NABA) 154-pound U.S. title with the victory, sending him to a world-ranking of 15 by the World Boxing Association.
